Schneider Named Conference USA Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Junior helped lead last two great defensive efforts
DALLAS – The 4th-ranked Marshall men's soccer junior midfielder Max Schneider was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Schneider helped lead the defensive effort of the last two matches that yielded just one goal, and the Herd's first clean sheet of the season.
"Last week Max's performances were excellent," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "He went back to basics, and simplified his defensive work. I thought the whole team did a markedly better job in defending, which allowed Max to make simpler reads, which he executed very well. I'm happy for him, but I know he will definitely be thanking his teammates for their great work as well."
Schneider helped lead the then 10th-ranked Herd to a pair of victories last week against East Tennessee State and (RV) Bowling Green. Against ETSU, Schneider sparked a defensive effort, especially over the final 11:10 when Marshall played with a man after a red card. The Herd defense allowed only one shot on goal during that span that was saved by Gabe Sitler. Schneider also assisted on Pedro Dolaballa's game-winner in the 51st minute.
Against Bowling Green, Schneider and the defense earned the Herd's first clean sheet of the season and the Falcons had scored a combined six goals in its last two matches. Marshall's defense allowed only five total shots and just one goal.
The Herd is back in action on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. against No. 4 West Virginia from Hoops Family Field.
