Rauch in Seventh Place as Herd is Fourth After Day one of Pirate Collegiate

Junior stayed in top 10 throughout first two rounds

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Marshall women's golf team is in fourth place after the first day of the Pirate Collegiate Classic on Monday. Junior Makena Rauch leads the team and is seventh overall as the Herd has four players all in the top 20 of the field.
The third and final round tees off Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. The Thundering Herd's golfers will get started on the back-nine beginning at 9:05 a.m. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"We kept it together today and I'm really proud of the fight I saw from everyone," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "Need another good round tomorrow for a strong finish!"
Rauch scored a 3-over 75 in the first round and then came back with a career-best even-par 72 in the second round. She birdied four times on the front-nine and five times total in the second round. Rauch finished the day with seven birdies.
Senior Torren Kalaskey scored a 1-over 73 in the first round and ended the day tied for 10th. Fellow senior Jackie Schmidt sank a total of six birdies and is tied for 18th. Freshman Katie Potter made her collegiate debut and is also tied for 18th. She birdied her last hole of the day on No. 18 to help her stay in the top 20. Sophomore Hanna Shrout improved her score by four strokes in the second round as she also sank a birdie on her last hole of the day.
Marshall is just one stroke behind Towson and Charleston Southern, as both teams are tied for second. East Carolina leads by 15 strokes. Oda Sofie Kilsti of East Carolina is tops in the field after scoring an 8-under 136 through the two rounds. She has a 7-stroke lead over Jordan Cornelius of Towson.
