Warner Gets Two Saturday Wins at Keydet Invitational

Team garners another five victories
LEXINGTON, Va. – On Saturday, the Marshall indoor track and field team recorded five more victories on the second day of competition at the Keydet Invitational, a meet that was held at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington.

Ashonti Warner (8.65) and Tyra Thomas (8.73) went 1-2 in the 60 meter finals, a day after doing the same in the event's preliminary race.

Warner came back in the 500 meters and won again, this time in 1:14.79. Tori Dotson took third in 1:23.20.

Abby Herring was the winner in the 800 meters (2:21.58) while Thomas was Marshall's top finisher in the 200 meters (26.33 seconds), a time that was good for third place.

The Herd notched first (Rebecca Merritt, 13.40 meters), third (MaryAnn Adebayo, 12.28) and fifth-place (Brooke Burns, 11.72) marks in the shot put.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Jillian King, Mikah Alleyne, Marlee Porter and Astoria Beckett captured first with a time of 3:57.49, nearly 10 seconds faster than the second-place team from Radford.

Sydney Smith took second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 10:13.17.

Maria Parra (5.60 meters) and Takira Williams (5.45) posted third and fourth-place finishes, respectively, in the long jump.

Julia Muller led the team in the mile run with a 14th-place finish (5:38.21).

The Thundering Herd is back in action Saturday at the Louisville Invitational.
