Two School Records Fall in Louisville

Alleyne, Herring set new marks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mikah Alleyne and Abby Herring both set new school records at the Lenny Lyles Invitational on Saturday in Louisville.

Alleyne ran a second-place time of 54.87 seconds in the 400 meters, bettering a record she set last weekend at the Keydet Invitational (54.92).

Herring finished 11th in the Mile, but broke the school record with a time of 4:57.46. With her performance Saturday, she improved upon the fifth-fastest time in the league and improved upon a record she set two weeks ago at the Marshall Classic (5:00.57).

Ashonti Warner took second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds, followed by Tyra Thomas, who finished fifth (8.61). Those are the third and fifth-fastest times in school history. Warner's time is also the second-best in Conference USA this season.

The Herd's 4x400 meter relay team of Alleyne, Jillian King, Warner and Itzel Santos finished third in a time of 3:47.41.

Macie Majoy placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 3.81 meters and Maria Parra paced the team in the long jump with a mark of 5.47 meters.

MaryAnn Adebayo (11th) topped the Thundering Herd's list in the weight throw (17.27 meters).

Takira Williams was Marshall's top finisher in the triple jump (12th, 10.82 meters)

Erica Murphy (2:22.51), Tori Dotson (2:22.65) and Astoria Beckett (2:23.20) went 15th, 16th and 17th in the 800 meters.

Rebecca Merritt took 16th in the shot put with a distance of 11.86 meters.

Kyleigh Edwards led the way for Marshall in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:39.43, good for 19th in the event.

The team is back in action Friday at the Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Va.
