BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- The Marshall University cross country teams competed at the Falcon Invitational Friday afternoon. The women finished third, while the men finished fourth in the last regular season meet for the Herd prior to the conference championships.

Abby Herring's second overall finish paced the Marshall women in the 6k. Her 20:01.1 is a new cross country 6k PR for the senior from Parkersburg.

Sophomore Kylee Mastin scored a top 15 finish as well with a 22:08.1 to place 13th overall. Senior Sydney Smith came in third, finishing 21st with a 22:19.4. Freshmen Hannah Wyler and Asha Bora rounded out the top 5 for the Herd with 37th and 40th place finishes respectively.

"What a meet!" Marshall head cross country coach Caleb Bowen said. "Both men and women's teams competed super well and we beat some great teams today! It was so much fun seeing Abby race MAC Champion Kailee Perry from BGSU and Kylee Mastin closing in on that top 10. Sydney Smith smashed her personal record for 6k and had the race of the season. Closing out our top 5 were our two freshman studs Hannah Wyler and Asha Bora!"

The men saw junior Evan White lead the way with a top 10 finish. His 25:23.7 is 11 seconds faster than his Louisville Classic time, and nearly a full minute faster than his first 8k of the season at Virginia Tech.

Freshman Matthew Schenenberg finished right behind White in 13th. His 25:35.0 cut off over a minute from his opening 8k of the season. Branden Wood finished third for Marshall, his 25:57.8 was good for a 21st place spot. Brett Armbruster and Kazuma Bowring finished back to back to finish out the top 5 scoring. Armbruster finished with a 26:16.2 and Bowring finished with a 26:17.3.

"The men were led by a great performance from Evan White, closely followed by freshman Matthew Schenenberg and sophomore Branden Wood. They rolled up there. Then a close pack of Brent Armbruster, Kazuma Bowring, and Kent Bee closed us out. Now, let's focus on the Sun Belt Championship here in two weeks!"
