Marshall’s nine points hold up to qualify for next week’s tournament
NORFOLK, Va. – The goal every season is to have an opportunity to advance to the conference tournament and to win the tournament. The Marshall women's soccer team will have that opportunity, even with a 2-1 loss Thursday night to Old Dominion.
Marshall fell behind early, giving up goals in the 6th and 10th minute respectively. Following the tough start, the Marshall defense held strong, with freshman goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth only needing to make one save on nine total shots.
The Herd mounted second half pressure, with senior Morgan White creating an opportunity down the left hand side. Her shot deflected to freshman Makai Laguines who finished her second goal of the season in the 70th minute to bring MU to within a goal. Marshall finished with six shots total, three of which were on target.
The Thundering Herd (3-9-5, 2-5-3 Sun Belt) will advance to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with nine points. The Herd will be seeded 10th, facing off with the seventh-seeded, App State.
