Pair of Goals from Yosef Pushes No. 6 Herd Men’s Soccer to Road Win at South Carolina

Second multi-goal match of the season for the redshirt senior

Box Score

COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Redshirt senior Milo Yosef recorded his second multi-goal game of the season to help the No. 6 Marshall University men's soccer team (7-1-2, 2-0-2 Sun Belt) to a 3-1 win at South Carolina (5-4-2, 1-1-1 Sun Belt) on Saturday night.

"Big three points today against a well-coached, well-organized side," Herd men's soccer head coach Chris Grassie said after the victory. "I thought for 85 minutes, that was the best performance of our season so far. We are now starting to find our groove, so the challenge to the lads is to continue to hold these high standards and push on from here to get to that championship level."

Yosef fired the first shot on goal of the contest, but the attempt was saved by South Carolina goalkeeper Ben Alexander in the 25th minute.

However, in the 36th minute graduate student Vinicius Fernandes took a deflection off a Gamecock defender and buried a shot into the back of the net to give Marsha the lead, 1-0, on his first goal of the season. That was the last shot of the first half as MU took the one-goal lead into halftime.

Herd graduate student goalkeeper Oliver Semmle was tested in the 53rd minute as he saved an attempt by Harrison Myring to preserve the 1-0 advantage.

Then in the 69th minute Yosef took a pass from senior Joao Souza, and found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season to double Marshall's lead, 2-0.

Ten minutes later, Yosef took a through ball from sophomore Kenzo Brito through the middle of the pitch. The German forward then slotted home a brace past Alexander for his second multi-goal match of the season to give Marshall a 3-0 lead.

South Carolina's Rocky Perez broke up the Herd's shutout in the 88th minute with a goal, but the visitors hung on for the 3-1 road win.

Yosef's first goal of the contest was his fourth-game winner of the season, most in the Sun Belt and tied for third most in the country.
