Semmle makes three saves

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The fifth-ranked and second-seeded Marshall University men's soccer team (10-3-3) dropped its 2022 Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament contest to the fifth-seeded James Madison Dukes (7-7-3), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Hoops Family Field.
After a feeling out process by the two sides, junior defender Morris Duggan fired a shot on goal in the ninth minute, but the attempt was saved by JMU goalkeeper Sebastian Conlon.
Graduate student goalkeeper Oliver Semmle then stopped the Dukes first two shots on target in the 19th and 38th minutes to keep the contest scoreless.
James Madison broke open the scoring at the 43:06 mark on Clay Obara goal to have the Herd trailing 1-0 at halftime.
After the opening shot by Duggan, the Herd had 14 shots towards the JMU goal. A couple hit the woodwork with others going just wide or over top of the goalas Marshall just couldn't catch the break it needed to find the back of the net as it fell in the match.
