Men’s Golf Moves into Fifth at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Marshall men's golf team put together another good round on day two of the Loyola Intercollegiate on Monday and moved into fifth place out 18 teams.
The Thundering Herd finished with a team score of even-par 288, the fourth-best team score of the second round at the Palm Valley Golf Club. The third and final round tees off Tuesday with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. local time, 9:45 a.m. eastern. The Herd will begin the day on holes 7-12. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"I was really pleased with the way we played for the second day in a row," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "The conditions got tougher as the wind picked up late in the round, but the guys finished strong. Tyler (Jones) had a great round today. Ryan (Bilby) turned in another solid performance. Noah (Mullens) played really well and had a nice even par round. I am looking forward to the final round tomorrow."
Junior Tyler Jones had the biggest improvement, lowering his score by five strokes to finish with a 2-under 70. Jones began the day with a birdie on No. 11 and then finished with four. He shot par or better on 16-of-18 holes and moved up 39 spots on the leaderboard. Freshman Ryan Bilby remains the team leader, tied for 11th overall. Bilby recorded an eagle on No. 14.
Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens dropped his score by two strokes and moved up 24 places on the leaderboard. Redshirt freshman Brett Montgomery finished the day with three birdies and is in the top 30. Fifth-year senior Brad Plaziak recorded three birdies and redshirt freshman Andrew Wyss tallied two birdies on Monday.
No. 86 Middle Tennessee moved into the lead by four strokes over Utah Valley. Kevin Jegers of Middle Tennessee, who was one of three players tied at the top of the leaderboard after the first round, remains in the lead by one stroke over Roberto Nieves of Delaware.
