Baseball to Travel to Columbus for Matchup against the Buckeyes on Monday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (10-5-1) added a matchup on Monday in Columbus, Ohio, against the Ohio State Buckeyes. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. and admission is free.

Marshall took game one over Merrimack on Friday, 7-6. Game two finished as a 9-9 tie and game three was canceled due to inclement weather.

Luke Edwards hit a pair of homers in game two, putting him at three this season. The junior leads the Herd with 26 hits, a. 382 batting average and a .588 slugging percentage.

Ryan Leitch, who was named to the 2022 Buster Posey Award Watch List, has a team-best 24 RBI and six doubles. The sophomore catcher is tied with Kyle Schaefer for the team lead in homers at four.

Geordon Blanton is 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts this season. He has 61 during his career at Marshall, third most in program in history.

Starting pitcher Jeffrey Purnell earned his second win of the season in game one over the Warriors on Friday. He has a 1.64 ERA and 30 strikeouts this season, both lead the Herd.
