Jones tied for fourth overall to lead Herd

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Marshall men's golf team is tied for third after the first round on Monday at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. Junior Tyler Jones is tied for fourth to lead the team.
Marshall tees off the second round on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"Tyler (Jones) continued his incredible play and shot a great 4-under par 68 to lead the team today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "He played great and it was fun to watch. Noah (Mullens), Ryan (Bilby) and Brett (Montgomery) all played solid and all three birdied their last hole of the day. We are in good position going into the final round tomorrow and I am excited to watch the guys compete."
The Thundering Herd finished with a team score of 1-under par 288. Jones shot a 4-under for the second consecutive round this spring. He finished the Sea Palms Invitational with a 4-under 67. Jones recorded five birdies and just one bogey in round one, shooting par or better on 17-of-18 holes.
Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens, redshirt freshman Brett Montgomery and freshman Ryan Bilby all finished tied for 24th overall with a 1-over 73. Mullens tallied five birdies overall, Montgomery finished with four and Bilby had three. Junior Christian Boyd had one birdie on No. 7. Senior Isaac Prine, playing as an individual, had one birdie and recorded an eagle on the par-5 No. 7.
Carson-Newman leads the team competition by two strokes over Oral Roberts. Lane Wallace of Oral Roberts is on top of the leaderboard by one stroke over teammate Dustin Hasley and Alex Hodge of Carson-Newman.
