Outside hitter to join Herd for 2022 season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall volleyball head coach Ari Aganus announced the addition of Jazminn Parrish, a transfer from Cal Poly Pomona, to the Herd for the 2022 season on Tuesday.

"I am so excited about the addition of Jazminn to round out our 2022 recruiting class," coach Aganus said. "She's a high-flying pin hitter who puts a lot of pace and velocity behind the ball. Jazminn fit right into our program both on and off the court and will be a fun new piece to our puzzle in the fall. Jazminn brings a consistent steady court demeanor along with a wealth of winning experience. She'll be fun for our Herd family to watch."

Parrish has been with the Broncos since 2019. She will have two years of eligibility remaining as no games were played in 2020 due to COVID-19.

"I loved the Marshall pride and their culture," Parrish said about the transfer. "It is as if everyone in the school is working for the ones who were lost in the plane crash. That type of pride is unmatched and unique. I also love the team culture. The coaches really promote team by volunteering in the local communities and remembering that we are human beings first and our wellbeing is a priority."

Parrish is a native of Bellflower, California, and began her collegiate career not too far away from home with the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos at the Division II level. She led the team as a freshman in 2019 with 303 kills, an average of 3.37 per set, while playing in all 24 matches and 90 sets. She also finished with 121 digs and 13 total blocks. Parrish had an attack percentage of .300 or better six times with a season-high of .600 in her collegiate debut. She tallied 10 kills, just one error in 15 attempts in the win over Western Oregon.

As a freshman, Parrish tallied five double-doubles coming in the last six matches of the season. She had double-digit kills in 18 matches with a season-high of 24 in a five-set win over Concordia (Ore.) on Sept. 7. Parrish recorded a season-best of 15 digs twice coming at Cal State LA and again versus Chico State in the season-finale.

She was named the 2019 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Freshman of the Year and selected to the All-CCAA Second Team. Parrish was top 10 in the conference in points as well as kills.

After having the 2020 season canceled due to the pandemic, Parrish helped lead the Broncos through a big turnaround in the wins column. After going 8-16 in 2019 and missing the postseason, Cal Poly improved to 23-5 in 2021, were ranked in the top 25 finishing the year at No. 25, lost in the CCAA Final, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Broncos went to the West Region, hosted in San Bernardino, California, and fell to Cal State LA in the first round.

Parrish was second on the team in 2021 with 275 kills, an average of 3.02 per set. She totaled 309 points for the season, averaging 3.40 per set. Parrish ripped off a career-high 23 service aces. She also had career-highs in digs with 235 (2.58 per set) and 22 total blocks.

The outside hitter tied her career-best with 24 kills in a win over Point Loma on Sept. 9. She totaled double-digit kills 14 times, had 10 or more digs nine times and had six double-doubles. Parrish set a career-high with 20 digs in a win over Sonoma State and added 16 kills. She had an attack percentage of .300 or better 12 times and hit over .400 in eight contests. Parrish had a season-best .619 attack percentage on 14 kills, just one error and 21 attempts in a win over Cal State San Marcos.

Parrish also ran track while at Cal Poly Pomona helping the outdoor team to a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay at the Rossi Relays in 2020, taking the second leg of her team's relay time of 3:59.68. The time was third best in the CCAA and fourth nationally. With the indoor track team in 2020, Parrish ran the third leg of the third-place 4x400 relay squad in the NCAA provisional qualifying with a mark of 3:51.32.

In high school, Parrish starred for Gahr High School in Cerritos lettering in both volleyball and track and field. She piled up numerous awards and helped guide her team to its first SVGL Title since 1999 in 2016. Parrish also earned a Non-native Speaker Award in Mandarin Chinese II.
