PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Marshall men's golf team completed the first round of the Golfweek Any Given Tuesday (AGT) Intercollegiate on Monday at the True Blue Golf Course. Junior Tyler Jones leads the team tied for 10th.
The Thundering Herd is in eighth place.
Round two tees off Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. on No. 1. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com. The Herd begins the day right from the start at 7:30 a.m.
"Tyler (Jones) played another really solid round," Herd head coach Matt Grobe. "As a team, we played okay but we need to play better. We are really looking forward to getting back on the course tomorrow."
Jones had another excellent round to begin the tournament. He finished with a 1-under 71. Jones recorded five birdies in the round and shot par or better on 14-of-18 holes. The Westerville, Ohio native finished with the second-best birdie total.
Redshirt freshman Brett Montgomery and freshman Ryan Bilby are both tied for 20th after scoring a 2-over 74. Montgomery tallied three birdies while Bilby had two. Bilby was solid on the back-nine scoring a 1-under 34. Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens and redshirt freshman Joseph Kalaskey had one birdie each.
Senior Kyle Mitchell, playing as an individual, birdied 3-of-4 holes to begin the back-nine and finished the day with a 3-over 75. Mitchell finished tied for the best par 4 scoring average of 3.75.
Jacksonville State and North Dakota State are tied for the team lead at 3-under 285. The teams are three strokes ahead of Gardner-Webb. Brock Winter of North Dakota State leads the field with a 4-under 68. He is one stroke ahead of teammate Nate Adams and Zack Byers of North Dakota State.
