Jones Tied for Second Through Day Two of Conference USA Championships

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Marshall men's golf team completed the second round of the Conference USA Championships on Tuesday at the Texarkana County Club. Junior Tyler Jones is now tied for second.
The Thundering Herd is 13th. Tee times for round three begin at 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET on the first and tenth holes. Players for Marshall will tee off on the back-nine again beginning at 8:50 a.m. CT/9:50 a.m. ET. The top four teams at the end of the third round will move on to Match Play on Thursday. The top five individual golfers at the conclusion of the third round will be named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"Tyler played great again today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "He played really well tee to green and really putted well. He sits in second and has a good chance tomorrow."
Jones finished the day with a 1-under 71. He totaled four birdies in the round bringing his tournament total to 11 which leads the tournament. The Westerville, Ohio, native birdied Nos. 12 and 17 on the back-nine and then Nos. 2 and 8 on the front-nine to stay near the top. Jones shot par or better on 15-of-18 holes. Through two rounds he has scored par or better on 31-of-36 holes.
Jones is tied with Max Sturdza of Florida Atlantic. The two trail James Swash of Louisiana Tech who put together a 6-under 66 on Tuesday to jump into the lead. Jones and Sturdza hold a two-stroke lead over Michael Barnard of Middle Tennessee and Michael Rome of UTSA who are tied for fourth. Jones is tied with Swash for the best average score on par-four holes at 3.80.
Fifth-year senior Brad Plaziak recorded three birdies in the second round. Freshman Ryan Bilby had two birdies while fifth-year senior Noah Mullens and redshirt freshman Brett Montgomery had one birdie each. Bilby lowered his score by three strokes from the first round.
The Florida Atlantic Owls maintain the lead in the team competition with a four-stroke lead over Southern Miss.
