Marshall Hosts Southern Miss to Open Sun Belt Conference Play

Saturday’s contest will also be senior night for Herd women’s soccer
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University women's soccer team faces the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Saturday, September 17th at Hoops Family Field. The match starts at 7 P.M. and is the Sun Belt Conference opener for both sides. Saturday will also serve as senior night for eight members of the Thundering Herd.

PRE-MATCH NOTES
Saturday's contest is the Sun Belt Conference debut for Marshall. The Herd's opening opponent will be a familiar foe however, as Southern Miss visits Huntington. Marshall is 6-3 all time against the Golden Eagles.
Saturday will be senior night for eight members of the Marshall women's soccer team. Kat Gonzalez, Lauren Hollis, Courtney McVicker, Iselin Noevik, Bailey Pattinson, Ann Marie Ramey, Madison Vogler, and Morgan White will be honored before the match.
Senior Kat Gonzalez has made 31 appearances for the Thundering Herd in her career. Gonzalez is currently tied for fourth in the Sun Belt in shots (21).
Entering conference play, senior Morgan White is tied for the conference lead in goals (5) and goals per game (0.71).
Junior Abi Hugh is leading the Sun Belt in assists (4) and assists per game (0.57).
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Southern Miss enters the Sun Belt opener with a 0-4-1 record. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish 3rd in the Sun Belt West Preseason Poll.
Midfielder Ilana Izquierdo made the 2022 Preseason All-Sun Belt team, her goal has led the scoring for Southern Miss in non-conference play.
Goalkeeper Alex Hellbling has led the trio of USM netminders with 20 saves, having faced 51 shots.
