Kalaskey’s 4-under 67 leads strong 2nd round effort for Herd
KETTERING, Ohio – Marshall's Men's Golf team made a big surge in its second round of action on Monday to move into 5th place heading into the final day of the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
Senior Joseph Kalaskey led that surge, carding a 4-under 67 in the second round to lead Marshall to a team round of 5-under – 12 shots better than their opening round.
"I'm really happy with the way the guys played today," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "Joseph, Ryan and Tyler continued their good play this semester and Clayton had a good round this afternoon as well."
Kalaskey and Clayton Thomas each overcame difficult opening rounds with solid play on their second 18.
Kalaskey finished his second round with six birdies to lead to his 67 while Thomas overcame a double-bogey on his first hole of the second round to finish with a 1-under 70 after four birdies.
Ryan Bilby and Tyler Jones were steady throughout each of their two rounds with Bilby's 2-under 69 leading the Herd in round one. Bilby and Kalaskey are tied for 14th heading into the final day.
Jones carded eight birdies between his two rounds and went 72-71 to sit at 1-over, which is tied for 23rd currently.
The final round gets underway at 9 a.m. on Tuesday from NCR Country Club.
