Kalaskey shoots 70, finishes event at 2-under to tie for 11th
KETTERING, Ohio – Marshall Men's Golf senior Joseph Kalaskey led the Thundering Herd for the second straight round and the team had a solid final round effort to earn a fifth-place finish at the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Tuesday.
"What a great tournament for us this week!" Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "They guys competed against a good field on a great course and played really well. We put ourselves in some tough positions today, but the guys battled hard to maintain our standing."
Kalaskey was in the red for the second straight round, using four birdies to card a 1-under 70 on Tuesday. The Charleston native finished the tournament at 2-under, which tied him for 11th place.
Tyler Jones continued his steady play on the week, carding his second consecutive Even-par 71 to finish at 1-over for the tournament, which placed him in the top-20. Ryan Bilby finished at 3-over for the tournament, which tied him for 26th.
"Joseph Kalaskey played great and had another strong finish and Tyler played consistent and finished 20th," Grobe said. "Ryan Bilby had a great first day, too. We had some solid efforts this week from all our guys."
One of the solid efforts belonged to Cameron Jarvis, who competed as an individual at the tournament.
Jarvis steadily improved in each round, matching Kalaskey for the best round by a Marshall golfer on Tuesday with a 1-under 70 that left him with a 74-73-70 for the event.
In the team competition, all five of Marshall's golfers competing on the team had a round of 72 or better throughout the week, including a second-round 70 by Clayton Thomas and a final-round 72 by Andrew Wyss that counted toward team totals.
Marshall's next action comes at the Bryan National Men's Collegiate, which starts on Oct. 29.
