Herring became the school record holder in Cross Country 6K last week

NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University senior Abby Herring has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Runner of the Week on Wednesday as announced by the league office.

Herring set a school and personal record in the 6K with a time of 20:02, finishing 13th out of 395 runners at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational last Friday.

The Parkersburg native has had a memorable final season with the Herd, winning races at the Virginia Tech and Thundering Herd Invitational, before finishing sixth at the Louisville Classic Gold Race.

"I'm so proud of the season Abby has put together," Head Coach Caleb Bowen said. "She has fun, races hard, and leads the team by example day in and day out. I'm excited for her and I can't wait for championship season coming up."

Herring and the Herd Cross Country teams are preparing for the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Foley, Ala.
