PRE-GAME NOTES
Marshall and Coastal Carolina will be facing each other for the first time at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.
However, it won't be unfamiliar territory for the Thundering Herd, who earned a 28-14 win over UConn in the 2022 Myrtle Beach Bowl at the venue.
Both teams come into the game with 4-3 records and two losses in Sun Belt play meaning the winner is one game from bowl eligibility and keeps its hopes alive for the SBC East Division title.
Marshall comes into the game with a couple extra days of rest following a mid-week loss to James Madison in their last outing. Coastal Carolina comes in after beating Arkansas State, 27-17, in Jonesboro, Ark.
ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall comes into the contest boasting of one of the nation's better defensive fronts in getting to the quarterback. The Thundering Herd ranks No. 1 in the SBC in sacks per game at 3.14 – a figure that is also No. 13 in FBS.
The Herd's ability to get to the quarterback has been by committee with 11 different players having a hand in the team's 22 sacks. Leading the way is defensive end Owen Porter (5.0) while fellow defensive end Sam Burton (4.0) and defensive lineman Elijah Alston (3.5) are also right there.
Offensively, Marshall is led by quarterback Cam Fancher, who has completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 1,679 yards. Fancher has also accounted for nine touchdowns (7 passing, 2 rushing).
Running back Rasheen Ali leads the team with 641 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while adding another score as a receiver. Despite missing last week's loss to James Madison, Ali ranks No. 2 in FBS in points per game (12.0) and his 12 total touchdowns rank him No. 5 in FBS.

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
Coastal Carolina is led by quarterback Grayson McCall, who is the three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. However, McCall was injured in last week's game and his status for Saturday's matchup is 'very doubtful', according to Coach Tim Beck.
Should McCall not be able to start, the Chanticleers are expected to turn to senior Jarrett Guest, who is 4-for-5 passing for 128 yards and a touchdown this season. Guest did start a pair of games in the 2022 season for Coastal Carolina as well.
Defensively, the Chanticleers lean on the play of Clayton Isbell, who has 38 tackles, three interceptions and five pass breakups.
The Chanticleers are ranked No. 2 in FBS in defensive touchdowns with three while Marshall is also in the top-10, just behind them with two.
