Herd returns home Saturday at 6 against Georgia State

BOONE, N.C. – The Marshall women's soccer team (6-6-1) dropped its road contest Sunday afternoon at App State (6-4-3) by a 5-1 scoreline.
An early score for freshman Katie Porter gave the Herd a first-half lead, with the defensive midfielder scoring her first career collegiate goal in the 2nd minute.
The freshman from Tampa made a nifty move to get into the box with a deflection off a Mountaineer defender to put the Herd in front just over 90 seconds into the contest. MU led at the break.
The second half followed with five unanswered goals by the host team. Goals in the 49th, 65th, 67th, 78th, and 80th sparked the App offense.
"It was certainly a game of two halves," Head Coach Michael Swan said. "For the first 45 minutes we were really good and could've maybe should've been ahead by more. Second half we just didn't compete as a team. There's no excuses for that type of performance in the second half and we all know that as a group."
"We as coaches have to take ownership of that. For 45 minutes we weren't good enough on and off the field!"

Marshall returns home Saturday against Georgia State. Kickoff from Hoops Family Field on Saturday, Oct. 14 will be at 6:00 p.m.
