Marshall sets two program records on first day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving team completed day one of the Purdue Invitational on Thursday in West Lafayette, Indiana.
"Had a solid first day. Our morning session was strong and put together some tough racing," Herd swimming and diving head coach Ian Walsh. "Our divers were consistent in their lists and strung together two strong sessions. We learned a lot about our team and how we need to navigate making adjustments from session to session."
The 400 Medley Relay team of Mia McBride, Paige Banton, Madeline Hart and Klava Katayama finished with a time of 3:44.61 for the fourth-fastest time in program history. The performance earned MU 26 points.
In diving, The Herd finished third in the team competition with a score of 226.50 to put 32 points on the leaderboard for the Green and White.
As an individual, Eszter Laban earned 13 points for Marshall in the 500 Freestyle for finishing in sixth with a time of 4:52.12.
"After day one, we had two all-time top 10 performances, eight lifetime bests and 30 season-best swims," Walsh added. "We are in a great position and need to trust ourselves in our races. If we do that, we'll see a lot of things come together."
Audrey West cracked the program's top-10 in the 200 Individual Medley prelims with a time of 2:04.37, the seventh-fastest time in program history.
