Herd hosts Arkansas State with bowl eligibility at stake

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football celebrates Senior Day on Saturday as the Thundering Herd takes on Arkansas State seeking to become bowl eligible at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

In addition to being Senior Day, the theme for the game as "We Are … Thankful for Heroes" which honors our local heroes.

ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall will honor 18 Seniors who will walk as part of Senior Day festivities during pregame of Saturday's contest. That is in addition to the trio of Micah Abraham, Eli Neal and Owen Porter, who went through Senior Day festivities last year before returning to the Herd.
One of the players who will be walking in Saturday's festivities is running back Rasheen Ali, who is just 13 yards away from reaching 1,000 yards for the season. If he does so, Ali will become just the fifth running back in Marshall history to have multiple seasons of 1,000 yards or more. He would join the likes of Jackie Hunt, Chris Parker, Doug Chapman and Darius Marshall.
Defensively, Neal and fellow linebacker Stephen Dix, Jr., are coming off big performances in which they each had 14 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Neal, Porter and Abraham will join several mainstays, such as defensive end Sam Burton, as guys playing in their last contest at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

ABOUT ARKANSAS STATE

Arkansas State had one of the most impressive all-around performances of the 2023 season in the Sun Belt Conference in a 77-31 victory over Texas State.
That win, which made the Red Wolves bowl eligible, came with Arkansas State scoring in each of the game's three phases, including a stretch of 28 points scored in which the offense never took a snap with the team getting a 91-yard fumble return, a 93-yard kickoff return and a pair of interception returns for touchdowns.
Quarterback Jalen Raynor has thrown for 2,030 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions in his freshman season playing for the Red Wolves.
Ja'Quez Cross leads the Red Wolves with 661 rushing yards and is coming off a game in which he rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns while adding the 93-yard kickoff return for a score as well. He was this week's SBC Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week. Â
