HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The top-ranked and number-one overall seed Marshall University Men's Soccer team (18-2) is to play its 2023 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament third-round matchup against the 16th-seeded Stanford (10-3-5). The match is set for Sunday at Hoops Family Field with a 1 p.m. first kick.

PRE-MATCH NOTES
- The Herd advanced to the third round with a 3-0 win over the California Baptist on Sunday in the second round.
- The shutout broke a program single-season record with the team's 12th of the season, besting the previous record of 11 set in 2020-21.
- Gabriel Perrotta also broke Oliver Semmle's individual shutout record of 11, set in 2020-21, with his 11.5 clean sheet of the season.
- Matthew Bell opened the scoring in the 24th minute with his 10th goal of the season on an assist from Marco Silva. The tally gave the Jamaican forward back-to-back seasons of 10 or more goals joining Byron Carmichael as the only players in program history with multiple seasons of 10 or more goals.
- Then in the 75th minute, Alexander Adjetey doubled Marshall's lead with a header off assists from Taimu Okiyoshi and Pablo Simon. Adjetey has scored four goals in 12 appearances off the bench this season.
- Simon then sealed the game with his seventh goal of the season on an assist from Takahiro Fujita at the 84:14 mark.
ABOUT THE CARDINAL
- Stanford advanced to the third round with a 3-1 win over Missouri State in Palo Alto, California, on Sunday in the second round of the tournament.
- Zach Bohane, Shane de Flores and Jackson Kiil each found the back of the net in the victory.
- Bohane leads the Cardinal with 11 assists, eight goals and 27 points as de Flores follows with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists.
- Kiil is third in scoring this season with his tally marking his sixth of the season.
