TOLEDO, Ohio – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (3-7) fought until the end in a one-point loss, 88-87, on the road to the Toledo Rockets (6-4) Saturday night at Savage Arena.

"We had a shot to beat them after a trip to Ohio and a long trip here (to Toledo)," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the game. "I'm proud of the guys. We're getting better. We're moving into where we're learning how to win and compete. I think by the time we get into conference play, we'll be a handful for a lot of people."

With 25 points, Obinna Anochili-Killen set a new career-high in the contest. The native of Lagos, Nigeria, went 8-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, while making all six of his free-throw attempts.

"I was proud of Obinna; what a heck of a game he put on," D'Antoni said. "I was proud of Kam Curfman. In the second half, he came out and started doing things."

Kamdyn Curfman and Kevon Voyles each tallied 19 points against the Rockets, with Curfman tying his career-high in assists at nine. 16 of Curfman's 19 points came in the final 20 minutes of play.

With two minutes to go in the ballgame, The Herd trailed by 10, 86-76. Curfman drained a pair of threes 40 seconds apart to cut the deficit to four, 86-82, with 44 ticks on the clock. After Toledo made a pair of free throws, Curfman made a layup with 24 seconds left. Then after Cameron Crawford stole a Rocket inbound pass, Curfman hit a corner three as MU trailed by one, 88-87, with 16 seconds remaining.

Toledo's Ra'heim Moss missed the front end of an one-and-one with Crawford grabbing the defensive board. The Herd brought the ball up the court with time ticking away. Curfman dumped the ball off to Crawford. Crawford put up a shot with three seconds to go, but the attempt ricocheted off the rim as time expired.

"We got a good look and that's a shot he makes a lot," D'Antoni said about Crawford's shot. "We couldn't have got a better shot. It was eight-foot. He turned quick and had to adjust his body, but he's capable. He had a nice look at it, but just didn't pull it off. You know what, that happens. I was proud of these guys."

Marshall only committed eight turnovers in the contest.

MU dished out 20 assists while making 32 shots on 73 attempts (43.8 percent) from the field, including 13-for-33 (39.4 percent) from three-point range.

The Herd also made 90.9 percent (10-of-11) of its attempts from the charity stripe.
