Marshall Softball Welcomes Southern Miss For Inaugural Sun Belt Home Series

Herd and Golden Eagles to open the weekend series at 11:00 am Saturday.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The first month of the Marshall softball season has provided milestone team and individual moments. Coach Megan Smith Lyon's team enters the weekend on a 14-game winning streak, already having achieved its best start in school history through 25 games.
The Herd (24-3, 1-0 SBC) now welcomes Southern Miss (15-9, 0-3 SBC) for a three-game set from Dot Hicks Field starting on Saturday.Â

PROMOTIONSÂ
- Saturday is Cancer Awareness Day, where each player and staff member will bring awareness to a cause of their choosing.Â
- Saturday is also Signing Saturday, where fans can get autographs from the players after the game!
- Sunday is Girl Scout Day at Dot Hicks Field! Girl Scout cookies and milk will be at the Dot Hicks Field concession stand! Sunday is also Fun Run Sunday! All kids 12 and under are welcome to run the bases after the game!
- The sale of alcohol will be permitted from the Dot Hicks Field concession stand all weekend long. Alcohol sales will be permitted at select home games throughout the season.
PREGAME NOTES
- Marshall has won 14 games in a row, its second longest winning streak in program history behind the 2017 team's 17-game run.Â
- Sophomore Alex Coleman leads the NCAA in stolen bases with 31 thefts. Her 41 hits also lead the Sun Belt Conference.
- Junior Autumn Owen is the current home run leader in the NCAA, with 15 long balls.Â

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
- Managing Southern Miss in her first season is Natalie Poole. Poole has 21 years of experience entering 2023, having spent the last 11 seasons with Memphis.
- The Golden Eagles were picked seventh in the SBC preseason poll (Marshall picked sixth). The former C-USA foes have met on 34 previous occasions, with the Herd leading the all-time series, 19-15.
- Leading USM offensively is dual-threat pitcher/infielder Jana Lee. Lee has a .355 batting average while posting a 3.94 ERA in 13 appearances in the circle.
