Marshall Softball Battles Past Ohio

Herd meets Cleveland State on Thursday from Dot Hicks Field
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — In order to reach the best 20-game start in school history, the Marshall softball team had to battle adversity along the way.
The same held true in the 17-3 Herd's 6-4 victory over the Ohio Bobcats Wednesday
Grace Chelemen's RBI triple in the bottom of the 5th down the left field line plated two to give Coach Megan Smith Lyon's team the advantage for the third time in the afternoon.
Sydney Nester entered in the top half of the frame to help end a three-run OU rally to tie the game. Nester earned her 11th victory of the season in what was her first relief appearance of the season.
Sophomore Rielly Lucas hit her third long ball of the year into the parking lot beyond the right field wall at Dot Hicks Field to give Marshall the initial three-run lead in the 4th.
Lucas was one of two Herd players with multiple hits on the afternoon. Alex Coleman was a perfect 3-3 in the leadoff spot with three stolen bases. Coleman scored MU's first run in the 1st on a Bub Feringa RBI groundout.
UP NEXT
With changes to the Thundering Herd March Madness schedule, the Herd now faces Cleveland State at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
