Kalaskey Leads Herd on Day 2 at Sun Belt Championship

Marshall junior fires a 1-under 71; team improves by 13 strokes from 1st round

MADISON, Miss. – Marshall junior Joseph Kalaskey fired a 1-under par 71 to lead the Thundering Herd golfers at the Sun Belt Championship at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi on Tuesday.
Kalaskey finished with one of only 18 rounds under par among participants in the tournament on Tuesday. He dropped in six birdies in his round while improving his score 10 strokes from his first round.
It was part of an effort in which Marshall's team improved their score by 13 strokes over the first day.
"I'm really proud of the way the guys battled today and improved from day one," Marshall men's golf coach Matt Grobe said. "A 13-stroke improvement as a team is really impressive. Joseph had a great round today, finishing at 1-under par for the round."
Marshall's golfers really started to come on late in the round with several guys making moves in the final holes to secure solid rounds.
Tyler Jones notched a birdie on No. 7 – his 16th hole of the day – to finalize a 1-over 73 while Christian Boyd Nos. 7 and 8 to get back in the clubhouse at 2-over 74.
Boyd and Jones lead Marshall's contingent, tied for 44th overall at 6-over par. As a team, Marshall is in 14th place, one stroke behind Old Dominion.
The two teams will partner again for the third round of stroke play, going off Hole No. 10 at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
