Marshall Softball Travels to Louisiana to Face Warhawks

Three-game series opens from Monroe Thursday at 4 p.m. eastern
MONROE, La. - (3:40 p.m. update - Wed. Apr 5)Â In anticipation of inclement weather, the series opener between Marshall and ULM has been moved to 4 p.m. eastern, 3 p.m. local time for Thursday, April 6.Â
The 31-3 Marshall softball team is 7-0 in the Sun Belt Conference, entering the week with a program-record 21 game-winning streak.
The Herd now faces the ULM Warhawks (19-19, 3-6 SBC) for a three-game set from Monroe, Louisiana starting on Thursday afternoon. It will be the first time the Marshall softball team visits the Pelican State.

PREGAME NOTES
- As a team, Marshall leads the conference and is top-five in the nation in batting average (.370), on-base percentage (.454), stolen bases (86), and slugging percentage (.586).
- Redshirt-senior Sydney Nester leads the SBC in earned run average (0.81), shutouts (8) and strikeouts (159). Her 18 wins are second in the conference and country overall behind Johnson from Troy's 19.Â
- Junior Autumn Owen is leading the country with 16 home runs. Owen also leads the nation with 57 RBI, a number that is three away from tying the MUSB program record for RBI in a season.Â
ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
- ULM and Marshall have never met in softball. The Herd has never played a game in the state of Louisiana (All contests with La Tech were in Huntington or at a neutral venue).Â
- The Warhawks are managed by Molly Ficthner, who is in her fifth season in Monroe.Â
- Leading Monroe offensively is junior outfielder Lourdes Bacon with 41 hits and a .315 average. Bacon is by far the team's top stolen base threat, having swiped 18 bases on 21 attempts.
- A trio of pitchers lead the ULM staff. Victoria Abrams has the most starts in the rotation with a 3.35 ERA in 19 starts. Adrianna Chavarria sports a 2.12 ERA in 23 appearances, and Gianni Hulett leads the conference with six saves.
