Herd Baseball Falls in Charleston to No. 24 WVU

Edwards, Lucio, Noble hit homers

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (13-13) fell 15-9 on Wednesday night to the No. 24 West Virginia Mountaineers (22-7) in Charleston, West Virginia at GoMart Ballpark.

"We did a lot of the big things right. We got big hits. We scored runs. I think we had 14 hits and nine runs. That should be enough to win a ballgame," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said. "We get down to crunch time and the free bases really hurt us. They scored their nine runs and I think we put six of them on base. Now they got hits. Give them credit. They're a good ballclub. The difference in a ballgame is you get down to crunch time. They executed and had really good at-bats. There's a reason they're 22-7 and ranked in the top 25."

With three hits, Chris Noble set a career-high. Noble had a pair of RBI in the contest with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth and a RBI single in the seventh.

In the bottom of the fifth, Christian Lucio blasted a 3-1 offering with the bases loaded onto Morris Street for a grand slam.

Luke Edwards got the scoring started for Marshall with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third.

Edwards and Noble notched their third long balls of the season as Lucio hit his second of the season.
