HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Exactly two years ago, Marshall's men's soccer team made history with a 1-0 win over Indiana in the NCAA College Cup, giving Marshall its first national title.
On Wednesday, Marshall men's soccer unveiled the path necessary to recreate that history by releasing its 2023 schedule, which features many intriguing matchups in the non-conference slate and a challenging trek in the Sun Belt Conference.
"We're extremely excited to announce our schedule for Fall 2023," Marshall men's soccer coach Chris Grassie said. "It seems like it's been an age since we last competed, so we're dying to get started."
Marshall's 2023 schedule will feature 10 home matches, plus an exhibition home match, which gives fans plenty of opportunity to see the national power Thundering Herd in action.
Season ticket renewals are currently underway for all who had 2022 season tickets by clicking HERE.
Deposits for new season ticket holders are also being taken until that time for $25 by clicking HERE.
Deadline for season ticket renewals or deposits for new season ticket holders is June 7.
"We're really happy that we're able to offer more home matches this year, and more home matches on a weekend for our amazing fans," Grassie said. "They're truly the best in the country and we can't wait to play for them again this fall. We hope to make them proud and give them a season to go down in history."
The 2023 men's soccer schedule features plenty of excitement, highlighted by a key home Sun Belt Conference tilt against defending SBC champion Kentucky on Oct. 22.
Marshall's home slate starts with the season opener on Aug. 24 against Oakland – a contest which begins a stretch in non-conference play in which the Thundering Herd host five of six games.
The final three games of that stretch involve Xavier (Sept. 1), High Point (Sept. 8) and Cleveland State (Sept. 12) – all teams who earned a win or draw in at least 65 percent of their 2022 matches.
In addition to the marquee home matchup against Kentucky, the Herd also hosts Georgia State on Oct. 7, meaning Marshall will host the two top teams surrounding them atop the 2022 Sun Belt league standings. The SBC home opener is also a Sept. 23 game against new league member UCF.
The 2023 schedule also features two marquee road contests with a Sept. 5 trip to NCAA College Cup participant Pittsburgh and an Oct. 18 league match at rival West Virginia.
Prior to the season getting underway, Marshall's men's soccer team is embarking on the Tour of Brazil trip, which takes them to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, for players to train and compete internationally while also embarking on a team bonding event. Donations for that trip from June 22-28 can be made HERE.
After the team returns from Brazil, they will train in advance of the exhibition season, which opens on Aug. 13 at Michigan. Marshall also hosts an exhibition against Robert Morris on Aug. 17 – one week prior to the season opener against Oakland.
