NEW ORLEANS – Marshall's Mikah Alleyne and Macie Majoy led a contingent of six Marshall Outdoor Track and Field athletes earning All-Conference honors, as announced by the Sun Belt Conference on Thursday afternoon.
Alleyne and Majoy earned Sun Belt First Team All-Conference awards by winning their respective events in the 400 hurdles and pole vault. Ronnie Saunders earned Second Team All-Conference with his runner-up finish in the 3K Steeplechase. Brett Armbruster (800), Dianna Goodman (Pole Vault), and Kylee Mastin (1,500) made Third Team All-Conference following their podium finishes in their respective events.
"What can I say about these kids?" Marshall Track and Field Coach Jeff Small said. "Mikah, who is graduating, will be the answer to a Herd trivia question, 'Who won the last championship on the track for Marshall in C-USA and who won the first championship on the track for Marshall in the Sun Belt Conference. Macie, a two-time SBC champ, earning her Master's degree in criminal justice with an unbelievable future ahead of her in public service. Brett and Ronnie - both graduates with engineering degrees - resurrected by the return of the men's program, which propelled them to great heights on the track. Dianna Goodman, second place indoors and third place outdoors in the pole vault at the SBC Championships as a sophomore! Her future is so bright. Kylee Mastin is the most focused and dedicated to her sport that I have ever seen at Marshall and is the epitome of the culture that Caleb Bowen has built here in our program."
Alleyne had a senior season to remember, capped off with an SBC Championship victory in the 400-meter hurdles. Alleyne won the event with a 57.77, which is a new school record in the event. Alleyne remained consistent throughout the outdoor season, breaking one-minute in all six occasions in which she ran the 400-meter hurdles throughout the season. The senior from Beckley, West Virginia will be competing in the NCAA East Prelims next week in Jacksonville, Fla.
Majoy built upon her historic indoor season, winning the 2023 Sun Belt Outdoor Pole Vault Championship with a vault of 3.96 meters. Twice throughout the season, the graduate senior cleared four meters, setting a new school record in the process with her 4.08 meter clearance. Majoy will join Alleyne as Marshall representatives at the NCAA East Prelims next week.
Ronnie Saunders jumped into the 3000 meter Steeplechase in 2023 after four seasons exclusively with the Marshall cross country team. The Wheeling, West Virginia native ran the steeplechase for just the second time in his career at the SBC Championship, finishing in second with a time of 9:02.70.
Brett Armbruster also made the most of his first season as a track and field athlete at Marshall, laying the groundwork for the program's restart with a school record and third place SBC finish in the 800. The Barboursville, West Virginia native raced a 1:48.82 in April to break James Kneeland's record in the event held since 1999. At the Sun Belt Championships, Armbruster finished third with a 1:50.84, a time which will qualify for the NCAA Championship Prelims.
Kylee Mastin has been no stranger to breaking records in 2023, claiming the outdoor women's 800 and 1500 record. Mastin finished fourth in the 800 championship, racing a 2:10.62, the new school record. The following day, the New Carlisle, Ohio finished third in the 1500, racing a 4:29.75, a mark earning the sophomore Third Team Honors.
Dianna Goodman continues the tradition of strong pole vaulters at Marshall, claiming Third Team All-SBC awards with her bronze finish in the Pole Vault Championship. Goodman finished with the same clearing height as Majoy at 3.96 meters. The Winfield, West Virginia native finished with a silver medal at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships as well.
