Five Herd Track and Field Athletes Prepare For 2023 NCAA Championship East Prelims

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall track and field team will have five representatives at the 2023 NCAA Championship East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Florida from May 24-27.
WHAT ARE THE NCAA PRELIMS?
The top 48 qualifiers in each event in both the east and west region qualify for the NCAA Championships. While Marshall will be competing in the East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, the West Preliminaries will be competing simultaneously in Sacramento, California this week.Â

MARSHALL ATHLETES
Marshall's scheduled competitors are Mikah Alleyne (400m Hurdles), Brett Armbruster (800m), Macie Majoy (Pole Vault), Rebecca Merritt (Discus), and Tyra Thomas (100m Hurdles).Â
All five athletes qualified for the NCAA East Prelims based on their qualifying marks from throughout the 2023 season. Each of the five athletes are among the best 48 qualifying marks from the eastern region and will compete to qualify for the NCAA Championship Finals in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.Â

"We're super excited to have so many qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, particularly with Brett and the return of the men's program. We feel like we have people with legitimate chances of advancing and hopefully making it to the Finals in Texas. My staff did such a great job of preparing these kids all year, we have every coach on the staff having someone go to the National Championships and we're competing in nearly every area that there is in track and field, so that is super exciting."
