Beckley native Mikah Alleyne finishes in Top-25 of East Region
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Marshall track and field junior Mikah Alleyne finished her historic season in the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championship East Preliminaries, racing a 1:02.53 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Alleyne - the Beckley, West Virginia native - finishes her 2023 season as the school record holder in the event, having won the SBC Championship.
Her final race of the season capped off a strong week for Marshall track and field's five qualifiers, all of whom finished at or higher than their projected marks.
Junior Rebecca Merritt became the fifth Herd athlete to do so earlier on Saturday, throwing 46.63 meters to finish ninth in the first heat of the Discus semifinals.
"Couldn't be more proud of our team here at the NCAA Prelims," head track and field coach Jeff Small said. "Each kid that we brought improved on average over eight spots which is just amazing and a testament to my coaching staff in preparing them. We've had a great year and we look forward to getting started back in the fall."
