HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's men's soccer team has found its footing on foreign soil, having arrived for its Tour de Brazil over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Thundering Herd men's soccer team departed the United States for a 10-day trip in Brazil where they will engage in elite training and team-building exercises in preparation for the upcoming 2023 season.

"This is going to be a trip our lads remember for the rest of their lives," Marshall men's soccer coach Chris Grassie said. "I also think it is definitely giving us a head start on next season. All our players are grateful for the opportunity and it's been a wonderful experience so far. The hotel is first-class and 2SV have been amazing hosts."

The first days of the trip saw the Thundering Herd travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they are training and taking part in a pair of exhibition contests.

Those matches, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, were historic in nature, according to Grassie.

"We played our first match today and we had 10 players make their debuts for Marshall soccer," Grassie said. "That has to go down in history as the first guys to play their first match for Marshall in Brazil!"

Marshall's team will engage in a 1 p.m. training session on Wednesday before the team flies from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro in the evening.

"We head to Rio tomorrow and will be able to take in some of the beauty of Brazil and see more of the country, which will give our guys the experience of a lifetime," Grassie said.

On Thursday, the team will train early in the morning before visiting Sugarloaf Mountain – one of Brazil's most well-known landmarks.

Friday includes the team's first exhibition match in Rio de Janeiro – a 9:30 a.m. kickoff against Botafugo U-21. The team's final exhibition match of the trip will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday against Fluminense X Bahia.

After two days of experiencing Brazil, the team will fly back to the United States on June 28.

Tickets for the 2023 Marshall Men's Soccer season are currently on sale. The team has 10 home matches plus an exhibition match at the friendly confines of Hoops Family Field. Click HERE to purchase tickets.
