Bilby Leads Virtues Intercollegiate After Day One

Herd junior has two-stroke advantage going into final round; Marshall sits in 2nd
NASHPORT, Ohio – Marshall junior Ryan Bilby sits atop the leaderboard at 10-under par and will take a two-shot lead into Tuesday's final round after an impressive Day One of The Virtues Intercollegiate in Nashport, Ohio on Monday.
As a team, Marshall sits alone in second place at 14-under in the 17-team tournament.
"I'm really happy with the way we played today," Marshall Men's Golf Coach Matt Grobe said. "Ryan Bilby played great all day and finds himself at the top of the leaderboard."
Bilby's day got off to a strong start as he eagled the par-5 No. 7 – his first hole of the day. That set in motion one of the more impressive recent rounds from a Marshall men's golfer as he finished with an 8-under 64 to pace the field in Round 1.
Bilby's first round included seven birdies, one eagle and one bogey as he moved to the top of the leaderboard.
The second round proved more difficult as he opened with a bogey, but immediately bounced back with the first of four birdies in his second round. His final birdie came on No. 6 – his last hole of the day – to place him at 10-under heading into the final day.
It was part of a successful overall day for the Herd, who trails only Michigan entering the final round of play.
In addition to Bilby's strong showing, Tyler Jones enters the final day tied for 12th at 3-under for the Herd after rounds of 70 and 71 while Joseph Kalaskey is tied for 21st at 2-under after rounds of 72 and 70.
"Tyler played consistent all day and finished at 3-under par while Joseph played really good today and finished both his rounds with a birdie," Grobe said.
In addition to Bilby's 11 birdies through two rounds, Kalaskey had 10 birdies on the day while Jones had nine, which means scoring is there if players can eliminate the bogeys and stay solid. Such an effort will be needed to make a run at Michigan, who shot 24-under as a team on Day One.
