HUNTINGTON, W.Va – "I don't have a problem with far distance shots, I love shooting from far distance."
Truer words had never been spoken from Marshall (5-0-1) senior Olivia Gandee, whose spectacular first career goal in the 84th minute sealed the Herd's fifth victory of the season.
Coach Michael Swan's side earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over Miami (Ohio) (2-2-1). With the win, the team has surpassed its victory total from a season ago. Five wins are the most by the program since 2018.
"Just a special night here, we have had several special nights this season but this was a complete performance," Coach Swan said. "We knew Miami was a tough, physical team. Our coaching staff did an amazing job with the scouting report today, and the players were fantastic."

Gandee's goal from 30 yards out into the upper corner of the net capped a strong second half for MU, who broke through on a 61st minute goal from Cassidy Bell off a corner. The Herd has scored four goals off set pieces in 2023.
Defensively, the backline led by goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth pitched its fifth clean-sheet of the year. The Herd had two shutouts in 2022.
The Herd is now unbeaten through five matches.
