HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – With a 2-1 win over High Point (1-1-1) on Friday, the No. 2 Marshall University men's soccer team (5-0) is off to the best start in program history.

"It feels like I've just been through a fight to be fair," Herd men's soccer head coach Chris Grassie said after the win and the program's best start. "It's good. Obviously, we're not looking at how we start, we're looking at how we finish. This was a tough one. It was probably the toughest one we've had here in a long time. Two tough ones in a row. Two tough counterattacking teams in Pitt and High Point. That was a gritty win and we got tested. High Point is very well coached."

MU's fifth-straight win to open the season bested the program's 4-0 start in 2000.

"I feel like we're making history, but for me, the thing is we're winning," Marshall midfielder Taimu Okiyoshi said about the team's start. "Five in a row is great, but we still have a lot of things to work on and a lot of things to fix and improve."

Marshall opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Earning a corner kick, Alex Stjernegaard sent a corner into the six-yard box. The ball took a slight deflection off the top of Morris Duggan's head and found the head of Alvaro Garcia-Pascual, who headed the ball off a Panther defender and into the goal. The tally marked Garcia-Pascual's fourth consecutive contest with a goal.

The teams entered halftime tied 1-1 after High Point scored in the 17th minute.

However, at the 56:10 mark, Matthew Bell sent a lob through ball over the HPU defense. The pass found a streaking Marco Silva. Silva chested down the ball and used his right foot to send the ball into the back of the net to put the Herd up 2-1 with the eventual game-winning goal.

The goal was the sophomore's team-leading fifth of the season with Bell registering his team-high fourth assist of the year, all in the last week.

Goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta came up big with a save in each of the first and second halves.
