CONWAY, S.C. - Marshall women's soccer (3-6-4, 1-3-3 SBC) dropped a difficult 1-0 result on the road to Coastal Carolina (6-4-6, 2-1-4 SBC) Friday afternoon.
The Herd outshot the hosts, 20-6, but the Chanticleers' 25th minute goal was enough to see through the result.
Marshall had the better of chances in both halves, with Ebony Leckey's shot in the box sailing just over the net in the 5th minute. Junior Bailey Fisher's long-range strike forced the CCU's keeper's best save off the woodwork in the 63rd minute. The Herd forced three saves in the match while junior goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth was credited with one save.
The Chanticleers now have 10 points in the tight Sun Belt Conference standings. Coastal is 4-1-2 in Conway this season.
The loss keeps the Herd at six points, still within reach of a top-8 spot in next month's Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship.

Marshall will next travel directly to Virginia to face ODU. The Herd plays the Monarchs in Norfolk on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
