Marshall Volleyball Falls in Tough Contest to Georgia State

Herd looks to rebound on Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (11-11, 2-7 SBC) fell in its weekend opener to Georgia State (13-8, 4-5 SBC) Friday night in the Cam Henderson Center.
The Panthers won the contest in four sets, 25-22, 12-25, 25-22, 25-21.
"We just didn't execute," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "Defensively, we had some good runs, but errored too much and didn't put enough offense up on the board."
Audrey Geer finished with a match-high 13 kills with Brynn Brown registering 37 assists. Peyton Neal netted a team-high 17 digs with Beatrice Ciccarelli rejecting eight attacks.
After falling in a tightly contested first set, 25-22, The Herd dominated the second. Marshall trailed 6-5 early, but rattled off an 8-1 run, finished off by a Ciccarelli kill, Panthers attacking error and a combined block from Ciccarelli and McKenna Melton to take a 13-7 lead.
MU finished off the set with six straight points, including the of the last four being service aces by Neal, to take the set 25-12. The Herd finished with 13 kills on 32 attacks with just two errors for a .344 attacking percentage while holding GSU to a -.033 in the set.
Marshall overcame a five-point deficit, 11-6, to have the third set tied 22-22 after a Sarah Stratton kill. MU's comeback was fought off by Georgia State taking the set 25-22 and taking the fourth for the match, 25-21.
