HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (11-12, 2-8 SBC) fell on Saturday in four sets to Georgia State (14-8, 5-5 SBC) in The Cam.
The Panthers won the contest in four sets, 25-13, 25-27, 25-23, 25-17.
"We had good first ball contact and relied heavily on her (Beatrice Ciccarelli) and Sarah Stratton and didn't get to pull it off tonight," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said.
Beatrice Ciccarelli finished the contest with a match-high 20 kills as Brynn Brown fell a kill shy of a triple-double with 26 assists, 11 digs and nine kills.
After the Panthers took the first set 25-13, the second required extra points. The Herd trailed by four points early, 5-1, but battled back by rattling off a 5-1 run to tie it 6-1. The second went down to the wire as Marshall fought off a pair of set points late in the frame. MU then used a kill from Audrey Geer and a service ace from Ciccarelli to take the set 27-25.
Despite falling in a tightly contested, 25-23, third set, The Herd hit a team-best .326 in the match 20 kills on 46 attacks and only five errors.
Georgia State sealed the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth as Marshall could not get on top of the Panthers.
