NORFOLK, Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (12-12, 3-8 SBC) started the weekend with a four-set victory in Norfolk, Virginia, over the Old Dominion Monarchs (15-7, 4-5 SBC) on Friday.

The Herd won the contest, 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19.

"Super proud of our entire squad," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "Day in and day out they continue to grind and adapt to whatever is needed. Blocking was key for us as well as being able to spread our offense."

Brynn Brown led the way with 15 kills as Bella Thompson had 17 assists and Audrey Geer registered 14 digs. Brown added sets and Geer had 12 kills as both finished with a double-double.

Marshall dominated the first set. The Herd never trailed in the opening frame. ODU had the set tied at 1-1, but never got on top of the visitors. A 5-0 run by Marshall, concluded by a block assist by Beatrice Ciccarelli and Sarah Stratton, put it up 11-5. The Green and White finished the set strong with a kill by Olivia Fogo closing it out, 25-23.

In the second, The Herd found itself down 10-5. However, MU went on a 10-0 run to turn the tables and take a 15-10 advantage over the Monarchs. During the advantage, Geer recorded four kills with Ciccarelli being in on three blocks, with two assists from Brown. Marshall took five of the final eight points to win the set 25-19 as Izzy Collier and Stratton ended it with a block.

After dropping a narrow 25-23 decision in the third, MU was tied 6-6 early in the fourth with ODU. Then a service ace by Kenzie Schoenhardt gave The Herd a 7-6 lead as it never trailed the rest of the way. The Monarchs kept within four points of Marshall for most of the set. MU proceeded to close out the set and seal the match with five of the final six points in the match to take it 25-19 on a kill by Fogo. The Herd finished the final frame with a .462 hitting percentage with 13 kills on 26 attacks with just one error.
