Herd Volleyball Sweeps Weekend at ODU

Brown, Geer close out weekend with back-to-back double-doubles

NORFOLK, Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (13-12, 4-8 SBC) closed out the weekend with a sweep of the Old Dominion Monarchs (15-8, 4-6 SBC) on Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.

The Herd won the contest, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.

"The resilience we showed to be able to earn two wins back-to-back is really impressive," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "We kept our heads down and had a defensive focus mindset. Our improvement on our first ball contact has allowed the versatility for spreading our offense and able to rely on multiple people per match."

Olivia Fogo led the team with 12 kills as Audrey Geer had 11. Brynn Brown had 19 assists and 12 digs for back-to-back double-doubles along with Geer also registering 12. Kenzie Schoenhardt joined the pair for the team lead at 12 digs.

The Herd continued its momentum from Friday into the first set. MU took the opening set wire-to-wire. Marshall started frame on a 3-0 run with a pair of Monarch attacking errors and a kill by Brown. The Green and White took its largest lead of eight points, 20-12, on a kill by Geer. Fogo finished the set with a kill to seal it 25-19. The Herd finished with a match-high .257 hitting percentage on 12 kills and 35 attacks with only three errors.

The second saw neither side lead by more than three points through the first 27 points as Marshall grabbed a 15-12 advantage on a kill by Geer. The Herd held the Monarchs at bay the rest of the as it cruised to the 25-21 with Fogo closing it out again with a kill.

ODU's only lead over The Herd in third was 1-0. Marshall rattled off a 7-0 run with a pair of kills by Beatrice Ciccarelli, a pair of ODU attacking errors, a kill by Brown and concluded with a kill by Fogo to go up 7-1. Although the Monarchs clawed back to tie the contest one more time, MU found a way to finish the road sweep with a kill Geer to seal the set 25-22 and the match.
