Marshall Volleyball Drops Weekend Opener at App State

BOONE, N.C. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (13-13, 4-9 SBC) fell in three sets in its weekend opener on Friday in Boone, North Carolina, to the App State Mountaineers (15-7, 9-2 SBC).
The Mountaineers won the contest, 27-25, 25-8, 25-23.
Brynn Brown led MU with 18 assists as Kenzie Schoenhardt had 13 digs and Audrey Geer finished with 10 kills.
After trailing the entirety of the first set, including down by as many as six, The Herd battled back to tie the contest 22-22. Marshall then trailed 24-22 but fought off a pair of set points to even the opening frame again. Despite the comeback, MU dropped it by the narrow margin of 27-25.
After falling 25-8 in the second set, the third was another battle like the first. The third frame saw the scoreboard 10 times and three lead changes. The two sides traded the first eight points to be tied 4-4. The Mountaineers led by as many as five at 19-14, but Marshall fought back to tie it 23-23. App State held off The Herd's rally to seal the set ad match at 25-23.
