Rodrigues dos Santos nets tallies two goals
ATLANTA – The fourth-ranked Marshall Men's Soccer team (9-1-4, 4-0-3 SBC) drew 3-3 to Georgia State (3-7-5, 0-4-3 SBC) in Atlanta on Sunday evening.
"Not a great performance from us," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "We had a few bright spots, but overall not great."
The Herd was quick to strike. Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos took a hail-mary pass from goalkeeper Aleksa Janjic and proceeded to flick it past the Panthers keeper for an empty net goal making it 1-0 just 2:33 into the match.
The under two minutes later Taimu Okiyoshi sent in a corner, finding the head of Takahiro Fujita, who found the back of the goal to double the lead, 2-0, at the 4:30 mark.
After Matt Taylor goal in the 56th minute, Marshall found itself up 2-1 heading towards the final 30 minutes of play.
In the 82nd minute, Rodrigues dos Santos took a cross from Tarik Panholzer and tallied his second goal of the contest, eighth of the season, to put MU back up by two, 3-1, with less than nine minutes remaining. Okiyoshi registered a secondary assist for his second on the evening.
GSU then registered a pair of goals in the final eight minutes as the two sides ended the match in a stalemate at 3-3.
NEXT UP
No. 4 Marshall stays on the road for a matchup at Kentucky on Friday night. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lexington.
