Mountain State Derby to Decide 2024 SBC Tournament Crown

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In a rematch of the regular season finale and the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Championship game, the Mountain State Derby is set to decide the 2024 SBC Tournament Champion.

The eighth-ranked and second-seeded Marshall University Men's Soccer team (11-1-6) heads to Morgantown for a matchup against the No. 10-ranked and top-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers at 1 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

The two sides battled to a scoreless draw at Hoops Family Field to end the regular season on November 5.

HAVE YOU HERD
- The Herd secured a 1-0 win over the James Madison Dukes Wednesday night in the semifinals to reach championship game.

- The goal came in the 36th on Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos' 10th of the season. The senior became just the 11th player in program history to have a double-digit goal scoring season.

- Joao Roberto registered his first assist of the season on the goal with Tarik Pannholzer collecting his fourth to tie Taimu Okiyoshi and Alexander Stjerengaard for the team lead.

- In goal, Aleksa Janjic picked up his eighth win and fifth clean sheet of the season.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
- WVU reached the title match with a 3-2 win over Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals on Sunday and 2-1 triumph over Kentucky in the semifinals.

- Segio Ors Navarro and Carlos Herandez each scored a goal in both matches. Ors Navarro collected the game winner against the Eagles with Hernandez tallying the game winner against the Wildcats.

- Hernandez's two goals were his first of the season with Ors Navarro now leading the SBC with 14 this season.

- Marc Bonnaire picked up both wins between the sticks making three saves across the two contests.
