Marshall Women’s Basketball Opens 2024-25 Season Monday at Toledo

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The defending Sun Belt Conference champions travel to the MAC regular season champions from last season. Such is the matchup the leagues set to highlight the first leg of the MAC-SBC Challenge Monday night when Marshall's women's basketball team travels to Savage Arena to face Toledo.
Tip is set for 7 p.m. to officially begin the Coach Juli Fulks era in Huntington.

Coach Juli Fulks
- On Apr. 12, 2024, Coach Juli Fulks became the ninth head coach in the history of the Herd.
- Fulks - the 2024 WBCA DIII Coach of the Year - joins Marshall with 400 career victories in 20 seasons, winning the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship.
PRE-GAME NOTES
- The Herd returns 10 players from its 2023-24 SBC-winning squad which finished 26-7 (17-1 SBC). The team's leading returning scorer Aislynn Hayes was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference First Team.
- Six newcomers join Marshall's squad in 2024 - five transfers and one incoming freshman. One such transfer is graduate senior guard Maddie Kellione. The Cynthiana, Ky. averaged 15.2 PPG in three seasons with Fulks at Transylvania
- The Thundering Herd has been picked sixth in the Preseason SBC poll.
- The Herd will face a MAC opponent to be announced at home in February later this season.
- Marshall and Toledo last met in the 2004-05 season as MAC foes. The Herd swept the season series that year, with the Rockets leading the all-time series, 5-3.
ABOUT TOLEDO
- Toledo enters the season with a new head coach, Ginny Boggess, who led Monmouth to 22 wins last season.
- Rockets graduate senior Sammi Mikonowicz was named to the Preseason All-MAC Second Team. She became Toledo's 33rd 1,000 point scorer last season.
- The Rockets were picked fifth in the Preseason MAC poll after winning the regular season last year.
