HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Men's Golf standouts Joe Feaganes and Linden Meade were inducted into the West Virginia Golf Association Hall of Fame's Class of 2024.

The two were honored on Friday during the WVGA's Hall of Fame Banquet at Guyan Country Club.

"(Friday) was an amazing night for Marshall University and Marshall Golf," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "Coach Joe Feaganes and Linden Meade – two Marshall legends – were inducted into the West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame. It was a special night with many former players and teammates making it back for the induction ceremony."

Feaganes and Meade add the WVGA Hall of Fame to an impressive resume of career honors that includes the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame.

Feaganes, who was inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000, has been the most influential figure in Marshall Golf history, leading the team to the Mid-American Conference team title in 1966 – a year in which he won the individual title as well - while later serving as Marshall's head coach for 40 years.

Marshall's annual golf tournament is named in his honor – the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

In addition to his importance to Marshall, Feaganes' importance on the game of golf at the state and national level is noteworthy. Feaganes served as the President of the Golf Coaches Association of America, head coach of Team USA in a series of matches against Japan and was also the Tournament Director for the Palmer Cup.

Feaganes' contributions to Marshall and the Huntington did not stop there as he served as an Associate AD at Marshall and Executive Director of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation for several years while also serving as a high school football and basketball official for three decades.

Meade, who was inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991, won the 1958 Mid-American Conference Championship with a record-setting performance that still lives in Marshall history.

On May 23, 1958, Meade shot a 10-under par 63 at the Elks Country Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan, which set a Marshall and Mid-American Conference scoring record. To this day, there has never been another round of 10-under par in Herd history.

The round propelled him to the MAC individual title, which also gave him a berth in the NCAA Tournament in Williamstown, Massachusetts that year. It came one year after he finished runner-up in the 1957 MAC Tournament.

From there, the Chapmanville, West Virginia, native continued his successful venture in golf. In 1962, Meade won his first of three West Virginia PGA Championships and qualified for the U.S. Open. His other titles in the event came in 1971 and 1976.

Meade also won the West Virginia Open in 1963 and 1984 – the latter of which helped him earn West Virginia PGA Player of the Year honors for that year.

In addition to his golfing success, he also promoted the game for his community, serving as the club PGA professional at Riverview Golf Club in Madison, West Virginia.

The WVGA Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place in conjunction with the annual Marshall Golf Day out at Guyan Country Club – a major fundraiser for the program. To donate to Marshall Men's Golf, please click HERE.
