CARY, N.C. – The 13th-seeded Marshall Men's Soccer team (15-1-7) shutout the top-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (16-2-4) 1-0 on Friday night in the College Cup Semifinals to advance to the program's second College Cup Championship game.

"It was a tough game," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said after the match. "We scored early. I told Tarik he needs to quit scoring so early. It became a different game. We had to defend. Credit to Ohio State. They were very tough. They're very good at what they do. They put us under pressure."

With the victory, Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie notched his 100th win at the helm of The Herd.

"For me personally, 101 would be nicer on Monday," Grassie said with a smile on his face after his 100th win at Marshall. "I've been so lucky working with so many good players. But like Tarik mentioned about Taka, it's better people. I love being around the guys. I'm energized by these guys."

The difference in the match came in the seventh minute. Aleksa Janjic sent a long outlet pass to Tarik Pannholzer. Pannholzer used a quick touch to beat Ohio State goalkeeper Max Trejo, who was collided into by one of his defenders.

The German forward then put the ball into the open net for what was the eventual game winner on his second goal of the season, both coming in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Janjic, who collected his second assist of the season, picked up his eighth shutout and 12th victory of the campaign.

The junior keeper made five crucial saves in the match to keep the Buckeyes off the board. The native of Belgrade, Serbia, stopped shots in the 14th, 29th, 34th and 42nd minutes in the first half.

Janjic's most crucial save of the contest came in the final 45 minutes. He came off his line to make a diving save on a point-blank shot by Ohio State's Parker Grindstead at the 61:02 mark to keep OSU off the scoreboard and seal the match.

POSTGAME NOTES
Janjic's eighth clean sheet of the season moves him into a tie for fourth most in a season with Paulo Pita (2019) and Oliver Semmle (2021) and now has the 10th most in a career in program history.
