McLatchey, McIlvaine Lead Herd At Atlantic Invitational

Herd teammates in top-3 as action heads to final round on Tuesday
LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Marshall's Emily McLatchey and Kasey McIlvaine each got their 2024 spring season off to a strong start at the Atlantic Invitational on Monday.
McLatchey fired a 2-under 69 in the second round while McIlvaine had a 1-under 70 in the opening round as both placed themselves in the top-3 of the field, heading to the final day at Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida.
McLatchey is currently in second place at Even par for the tournament while McIlvaine is tied for third, just one shot back at 1-over, as they head into Tuesday's final round.
"Emily and Kasey both had really good rounds to start the spring season," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "It was great to see them get off to a great start in 2024. We look forward to finishing strong as a team and improving our position on Tuesday."
As the winds picked up in the second round, McLatchey locked in with five birdies in the round, including a stretch where she birdied three of four holes to move up the leaderboard.
The biggest boost in her round came on par-5s where she was 3-under in the second round. McLatchey currently is tied for the lead in birdies out of the entire field with eight.
McLatchey's surge came after McIlvaine set the tone for the day with a 1-under 70 in the opening round.
McIlvaine was the model of consistency throughout the day, carding 29 pars out of 36 holes, which leads all players in the tournament.
Both players were in elite company with their rounds on Monday. McIlvaine's opening round was one of only four rounds under par while McLatchey's round was the best second-round score in the field and one of only three under par.
As a team, Marshall is currently in fourth place in the field.
