2023 NCAA XC Qualifier broke Indoor 5K record Friday
NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season, Marshall graduate senior Abby Herring has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week. The league announced Herring's honor Wednesday.
The Parkersburg native raced a 16:21.09 to break the Indoor school 5K record last Friday night. The previous school record stood at 17:22.38.
Herring also toppled the Marshall Invitational meet record and the Jeff Small Track record in the event.
"Abby exemplifies what it means to be a Marshall Track and Field Athlete," Director of Track and Field Keith Roberts said. "She is always respectful and positive, works hard both in the classroom and on the track, and puts her team first. We are proud that she is a member of our track and field family and every accolade she has received this year is well deserved. I am excited for next week as I know she will continue to build on her historic season at the conference championship."
Herring was also a two-time Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week last fall. She has set or broken 27 school records as a member of the Thundering Herd including the Indoor 3K record set earlier this season at the Lenny Lyles Invite (9:21.88).
